Move to the Left - Mixed Media on Panel
Move to the Left - Mixed Media on Panel
This piece is an 8" x 8" monoprint collage with machine stitching that is mounted to a 1 5/8" cradled wood panel. Sealed with a matte varnish, signed on the back, wired and ready for hanging.
All my collage materials are hand-printed using a gel printing plate, acrylic paint, found textures, and homemade stencils.
“Move to the Left” is part of a series from 2023 where I explored one of my favorite shapes, the circle. I often use circle-like shapes in my work, such as rocks, stones, rings, or arches, but I wanted to play with a true circle. Perhaps because I’ve battled control issues in my life, there is something about the perfectly round, crisp edges of these circles that I find very calming. The clean lines from the circles are balanced with organic, irregular shapes created from found objects used in the base layers of my printing process, as well as the rough texture of cold press watercolor paper.
In this particular piece, I love how the shapes on top look like are about to tip over, balancing in an way that seems unnatural. Maybe if they move to left just a little they can keep from falling over.
